Diving on Koh Phi Phi

Koh Phi Phi is one of the easiest places in Thailand to learn to dive, and the dive sites are close: Bida Nok and Bida Nai, the two limestone pinnacles south of Phi Phi Leh, are 30 minutes from the pier, with walls, soft coral, leopard sharks and turtles. The King Cruiser wreck, Shark Point and Anemone Reef lie halfway to Phuket. Hin Daeng and Hin Muang, the deep pinnacles for mantas and whale sharks, are a long day trip south.

Our list has 23 entries: the dive centres in Tonsai Village and on Loh Dalum, two freediving schools, and the dive sites themselves. Two fun dives cost about ฿2,500 to ฿3,200 with equipment, a Discover Scuba day about ฿3,500 to ฿4,000, the PADI Open Water course about ฿12,000 to ฿14,500 over three days.

The season runs all year, with the best visibility from November to April. Snorkelling from the beach works at Long Beach, where blacktip reef sharks patrol the drop off in the early morning. The sites of Phi Phi Leh are in our guide Things to do.
